BED NETS AND HOW THEY SAVE LIVES
WHY YOU SHOULD USE A BED NET:
Bed nets are cheap and easy to set up. They can provide a whole family safety depending on size for up to 3 years. Even if there is a tear, the net is still 99% effective. The sole purpose of the net is to act as a barrier to protect you from mosquitoes. When a mosquito comes into contact with the net it will instantaneously die. HOW TO SET A BED NET:
NET ITNs Insecticide-treated bed net (ITNs) also commonly know as bed nets costs approximately $3 and lasts for 3-4 years, and on average protects two people. Bed nets in the past 5 years have reduced the deaths of children under 5 by 20%. The bed nets are designed to repel and kill mosquitoes, and are reducing the number of infected. Bed nets are usually made with polyester, polyethylene or polypropylene., although only pyrethroid insecticides are approved. Bed nets used to be washed and retreated every 6-12 months. With recent studies showing that the rise of pyrethroid resistance may counter the effectiveness of the nets. TO help the resistance, some companies are incorporating piperonyl butoxide along with pyrethroid insecticide. LLINs Long-lasting insecticide treated nets maintain potency for at least 3 years even with repeated washing. The sharp decrease in Malaria have been correlated to LLINs where programs have achieved high LLINs coverage. LLINs are usually largely distributed through mass campaigns every 3 years. Funding for LLINs have been increasing since 2004 and 2010 where 145 million nets were delivered. Increasing the lifespan of LLINs can save approximately 3.8 billion. 3 EASY WAYS TO PREVENT MALARIA:
